Yoga for Back & Neck Pain
Robin began her foray into yoga in 1986 in part as a way to address the lower back pain she experienced after giving birth to her second child. Not only did she find relief for her back with yoga, but she discovered a valuable tool for healing her mind and heart as well. Incorporating best practices from the two primary therapeutic yoga traditions, (Iyengar and Viniyoga), along with an in-depth understanding of functional anatomy, Robin has created a unique and potent method for addressing lower back pain. Her program has been clinically proven effective in two National Institutes of Health Studies and supported literally thousands of people in healing.
Over thirty million Americans suffer due to chronic lower back pain each year with estimated costs of a $100 billion including medical expenses, compensation, lost earnings and productivity. Back pain is the most frequent cause of activity limitation in people younger than 45 years old, and up to 80% of adults over the age of 50 have suffered at least one episode of lower back pain.
However, 95% of all back problems are organic, meaning that they are the result of sprains due to common postural and movement habits that can easily be addressed through yoga therapy. By bringing attention to muscular dysfunction and imbalance, postural asymmetries, alignment and life-style, EYT’s yoga therapy program effectively addresses the problem whether the pain is the result of degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, stenosis, sacral instability or just chronic tension and weakness. Robin also confers with physiatrists, PT’s., chiropractors and massage therapists to ensure her clients receive the best team approach possible.
Robin’s masterful way of working incorporates breathing techniques and mindful focus on each movement, so that one experiences deep relaxation while at the same time learning how to move with the support of the core musculature. The overall effect of her Essential Low Back Program is that one achieves renewed flexibility and confidence, strength and tone of the muscles that support the lower back and postural stability to enable you to move pain-free through the rest of your life.
Individual therapy sessions adapt specifically to you and your condition. Group Therapeutic classes address breathing, core support, flexibility and postural alignment.
